“Getting to know yourself inside and out is a continuous journey of peeling back the layers of the onion and becoming more and more comfortable with the middle—the true essence of you. Facing the truth about who you are can at times be unsettling. Getting in touch with your emotions and tendencies takes honesty and courage. Be patient and give yourself credit for even the smallest bits of forward momentum.” Emotional Intelligence 2.0
I read David Allen’s book Getting Things Done when it was first published in the early 2000’s and loved the basic principles but found it too cumbersome for my ADHD brain. I’ve adapted, simplified, and tailored it to my, and hopefully your, ADHD brain wiring. I’ve found it to be a very useful tool when I need to get things done, hopefully you will too.
Allen’s premise is simple: our productivity is directly proportional to our ability to relax. Only when our minds are relaxed and clear, and our thoughts are organized can we achieve effective results and unleash our creative potential—a feat as big as moving a mountain for our ADHD brains!
This simple matrix first introduced by Stephen Covey in his iconic book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a great tool we can use to lower anxiety and help us lead and live a more satisfying and focused life as adults with ADHD
